SRS indicator does not come on

NOTE: 2-door: Before replacing t h e SRS u n i t , check the SRS u n i t software v e r s i o n w i t h t h e HDS. I f t h e software v e r s i o n is not t h e latest, update t h e SRS unit software (see page 24-39), a n d retest.

1. T u r n t h e i g n i t i o n s w i t c h to LOCK (0), a n d w a i t for 10 seconds.

2. T u r n t h e i g n i t i o n s w i t c h t o ON (II), a n d check t h a t the SRS indicator comes o n f o r about 6 seconds and then goes off.

Does the SRS indicator come on? YES -

l n t e r m i t t e n t f a i l u r e , t h e s y s t em is OK at t h is t i m e .

NO

-Go t o step 3.

3. Connect t he HDS t o t he data link connector (DLC) (see page 24-38).

4. Make sure t h e HDS communicates w i t h t h e vehicle and t h e SRS unit. If it does not communicate, troubleshoot t h e DLC c i r c u i t (see page 11-181).

5. Do t h e gauge control m o d u l e self-diagnostic f u n c t i on (see page 22-332).

Does the SRS indicator come on? YES

-Faulty SRS unit; replace t h e SRS unit (see page 24-228).

NO

-Faulty gauge control m o d u l e ; replace t h e gauge control module (see page 22-351 ) .

SRS indicator stays on, but no DTCs are stored, or cannot be read

NOTE: Before d o i n g t h i s t r o u b l e s h o o t i n g procedure, make sure t h e battery is f u l l y charged. I f t h e battery v o l t a g e is l o w , SRS indicator may stay o n.

1. Start t he engine, and see i f t h e m a l f u n c t i o n indicator l a mp (MIL) also stays on.

Does the MIL stay on longer than 30 second? YES

-Go t o t h e MIL Circuit T r o u b l e s h o o t i n g (see page 11-180).

NO

-Go t o step 2.

2. Connect t h e HDS t o t he data link connector (DLC) (see page 24-38).

3. Make sure t h e HDS communicates w i t h t h e vehicle and t h e SRS unit. If it does not communicate, t r o u b l e s h o o t t h e DLC circuit (see page 11-181).

4. Check f o r DTCs w i t h t h e HDS (see page 24-37).

Are any SRS DTCs indicated? YES

-Do t h e SRS DTC t r o u b l e s h o o t i n g.

NO

-Go t o step 5.

5. Select Body Electrical status w i t h t h e HDS.

6. Check f o r DTCs in t h e Gauge .Menu w i t h t h e HDS.

Is DTC U0151 indicated? YES

-Troubleshoot DTC U0151 (see page 22-345).

NO

-Go t o step 7.

7. Do t h e gauge control m o d u l e self-diagnostic f u n c t i on (see page 22-332).

Does the SRS indicator come on? YES

-Faulty SRS u n i t ; replace t h e SRS unit (see page 24-228).

NO

-Faulty gauge control module; replace t h e gauge control m o d u l e (see page 22-351 ).

Side airbag cutoff indicator stays on

1. Make sure n o t h i n g is o n t h e f r o n t passenger's seat.

2. Make s u r e t h e seat-back is dry.

3. T u r n t h e i g n i t i o n s w i t c h t o ON (II), a n d see if t h e SRS indicator comes on.

Does the SRS indicator come on and stay on? YES

-Go t o t h e S y m p t o m T r o u b l e s h o o t i n g "SRS indicator stay o n , but no DTCs are s t o r e d , o r cannot be r e a d ".

NO

-Go t o step 4.

4. Connect t h e HDS t o t h e data link connector (DLC) (see page 24-38).

5. Make sure t h e HDS communicates w i t h t h e vehicle and t h e SRS unit. If it does not communicate, t r o u b l e s h o o t t h e DLC c i r c u i t (see page 11-181).

6. Select Body Electrical status w i t h t h e HDS.

7. Check f o r DTCs in t h e Gauge Menu w i t h t h e HDS.

is DTC U0151 indicated? YES

-Troubleshoot DTC U0151 (see page 22-345).B NO

-Go t o step 8.

8. Do t h e gauge control m o d u l e self-diagnostic f u n c t i on (see page 22-332). Does the side airbag cutoff indicator flash? YES

-Do t h e ODS unit i n i t i a l i z a t i on (see page 24-40). p r o b l em is still present, replace t h e seat-back w i th equipped OPDS sensor, 4-door (see page 20-213), 2-door (see page 20-221). If t h e p r o b l em is still present, replace t h e SRS unit (see page 2 4 - 2 2 8 ) . NO

-Faulty gauge control m o d u l e ; replace t h e gauge control m o d u l e (see page 22-351 ) .

Side airbag cutoff indicator does not come on

NOTE: • If t h e SRS i n d i c a t o r also stays o n , g o t o SRS indicator stays o n , b u t no DTCs are s t o r e d (see page 24-205).

• 2-door: Before replacing t h e SRS unit, check t h e SRS unit s o f t w a r e v e r s i o n w i t h t h e HDS. If t h e software v e r s i o n is not t h e latest, update t h e SRS unit software (see page 24-39), a n d retest.

1. T u r n t h e i g n i t i o n t o LOCK (0), a n d w a i t f o r 10 seconds.

2. T u r n t h e i g n i t i o n s w i t c h t o ON (II), a n d check t h a t t he side airbag cutoff indicator comes on f o r about 6 seconds.

Does the side airbag cutoff indicator come on? Y E S

- l n t e r m i t t e n t f a i l u r e , t h e s y s t em is OK at t h is timafi NO

-Go t o step 3.

3. Connect t h e HDS t o t h e data l i nk connector (DLC) (see page 24-38).

4. Make sure t h e HDS communicates w i t h t h e vehicle and t h e SRS unit. If it does not communicate, t r o u b l e s h o o t t h e DLC circuit (see page 11-181).

5. Do t h e gauge c o n t r o l m o d u l e self-diagnostic f u n c t i on (see page 22-332).

Does the side airbag cutoff indicator come on? YES

-Faulty SRS u n i t ; replace t h e SRS unit (see page 24-228).

NO

-Faulty gauge control module; replace t h e gauge control m o d u l e (see page 22-351 )

Passenger's airbag cutoff indicator stays on or comes on suddenly

NOTE: Under t h e f o l l o w i n g c o n d i t i o n s , t h e passenger's airbag cutoff indicator stays o n or comes o n suddenly: • When one is s i t t i ng o n t h e f r o n t passenger's seat, but t h e r e is a n object o n t h e seat m o r e t h a n 11 lbs (5 kg).

• The seat belt is buckled, but n o one is s i t t i ng o n t he f r o n t passenger's seat.

• Someone w h o is less t h a n about 65 lbs (30 kg) is s i t t i ng o n t h e f r o n t passenger's seat.

• 2-door: Before replacing t h e SRS unit, check t h e SRS unit s o f t w a r e v e r s i o n w i t h t h e HDS. I f t h e software v e r s i o n is not t h e latest, update t h e SRS unit software (see page 24-39), a n d retest.

1. Check f o r these items, t h e n recheck t h e passenger's airbag cutoff indicator.

• The f r o n t passenger's seat is i n s t a l l ed correctly.

• Nothing is/was o n t h e f r o n t passenger's seat.

• Nothing is/was under t h e f r o n t passenger's seat.

• Nothing is/was in t h e f r o n t passenger's seat-back pocket.

• Whoever was s i t t i ng o n t h e f r o n t passenger's seat was s i t t i ng in t h e proper s i t t i ng position.

• The seat w e i g h t sensors may not measure the correct w e i g h t of t h e f r o n t passenger's. I f t he passenger's is m o r e t h a n 65 lbs (30 kg) but is s u p p o r t i n g some of t h e i r b o d y w e i g h t w i t h their feet o n t h e f l o o r , o r w i t h t h e i r hands a n d arms o n an a rm rest, t h e actual w e i g h t of t h e passenger is not measured.

Does the passenger's airbag cutoff indicator stay on?

YES

-Go t o step 2.

N O

- T r o u b l e s h o o t i n g is complete.

2. Connect t h e HDS t o t h e data l i nk connector (DLC) (see page 24-38).

3. T u r n t h e i g n i t i o n s w i t c h t o ON (II).

4. Make sure t h e HDS c o m m u n i c a t e s w i t h t h e v e h i c le and t h e SRS unit. If it does not communicate, t r o u b l e s h o o t t h e DLC circuit (see page 11-181).

5. Select t h e INSPECTION menu o n t h e HDS, t h e n select AFTER REPLACING FRONT PASSENGER'S SEAT COMPONENT(S), and f o l l o w s t h e problems.

Does the passenger's airbag cutoff indicator stay on? YES

-Go t o step 6.

N O

- T r o u b l e s h o o t i n g is c o m p l e t e . 6. Select t h e INSPECTION menu o n t h e HDS, t h e n select AFTER A VEHICLE COLLISION, a n d f o l l ow t he prompts.

Does the passenger's airbag cutoff indicator stay on? YES

-Faulty SRS unit; replace t h e SRS unit (see page 24-228). i f t h e p r o b l em is still present, replace t h e ODS unit (see page 24-237), a n d t h e n i f t h e p r o b l em is still present, replace t h e f r o n t passenger's w e i g h t sensor assembly, 4-door (see page 24-235), 2-door (see page 24-236).

NO

- Troubleshooting is complete.
